I spent some time today dealing with some messes. I cleaned out my bathroom drawers, tackled my car and decided to be brave and deal with this tangle of necklaces. As I sat straighting out the pile I thought about how similar arguments can look.
My thoughts turn into mush, the beauty of my relationships turn ugly and the forward progress stops. The steps to untangling my necklaces work in my arguments too. 1. Get the mess out of the dark and into the light. I had tried untangling these while standing in my closet, bending around clothes and struggled. Did not work. I had to haul the jewelry box into my bedroom and take a look. 2. Focus on one necklace at a time. I had to unclasp one necklace and deal with it alone. If I tried to fix them all at the same time it got worse. 3. Loosen up I shook out the tight spots, spread out the knots so I could see. If I pulled too hard the knots got tighter and threatened to break. If I held lightly I could see where the hang up was and slowly unwind. 4. Spend some time. Not a super fast process. I had to make some space in my schedule to deal with the issues. 5. Celebrate success Seriously satisfying. Worth the effort. As I made this list I reflected about recent communication issues with Family and friends. I’m going to spend some time and take a look. I think if I really focus on each issue I may uncover some knots- places I need to lighten up, forgive or untangle. Does this help you?

A friend of mine posted Michael W. Smith's new song and I love it! Praise is truly an excellent weapon to move a bad mood, battle temptation, gather courage and increase your faith. If you don't have this song in your list yet - take a listen. And can I also just say this man is a permanent fixture in my song catalog? How does he keep going???
I interviewed Dr. Nathan Roskam with Because International a while ago. If you missed the interview you ca see the link here. Check out this new twitter story about the shoe. You can see the link on my twitter feed as well. Love this company

My daughters and I read every night. A couple of months ago we discovered these lovely books by James Mayhew. They combine classic art, a sweetie for the protagonist and gorgeous layouts. Picture books grab buy heart. If you love art these are for you. If you don't love art, you should read these because they'll teach you to love art.
What about you - do you have any new favorites?
If you've read any of the That's the Book posts you'll note there is a section at the bottom where I link up useful resources. Sometimes its songs, books, other blogs or Bible studies. And always always always I post a link to the YouTube series Read Scripture from The Bible Project. 670,000 YouTube subscribers and over 28 million views in 2018.
GUESS WHO GETS TO GO INTERVIEW THEM TOMORRW????? ME! I've been working on questions - but if you are a fan of the series too and have something you'd love to know send me a message and I'll get your question in. Watch for the interview to be posted later this week. I've got some more interviews lined up in the coming months. It's gonna be a fun year. |
